Use them They are life savers! Now your mortars have longer ranges and are faster to set up with higher rates of fire than your field guns they are excellent for smoke screens (until the nebelwerfer turns up that is). Adrian

these are a few ways i use smoke screens apart from hiding assaulting troops:
to cover engineers digging trenches or laying mines and obstacles. to cover engineers while they repair immobilized vehicles. to cover held objectives from artillery observers. to cover resupply troops at depots and in the field.

i was wondering if you could get teh enemy to use smokescreens? even if you had to delegate 2 mortars or big guns specifically for smoke?
could you script an enemy attempt at building/repairing a bridge or recovering damaged equipment with engineer trucks?
i think if you can do that it would be a real achievement.

I have tried to do this but to no avail. There is a LUA script function in place but unfortunately it does not work I have even tried to convince the AI that a gun only has Smoke shells but this didn't work either. Hopefully they will sort this out with BK 2. Adrian

It might not be realistic, but can you mod a weapon that only fires smoke shells? Maybe make a unit called the M-30 Smokelayer. It cannot ever fire anything but smoke. Then set up batteries of those on maps that would require an AI smokescreen.

Its possible for player controlled units, but teh Ai just doesn't want to know.

i must be doing something wrong as i couldn't get the 155mm guns to lay smoke?
don't tell me i need to read the manual?
been there and done that, as all the weapons that can fire smoke i've tried but it does fire something which doesn't go bang but i dont see anything?
so what am i doing wrong as everything else work just about right for me, sounds and looks great with no driver problems or any errors touch wood as yet.

The smoke shell doe's not make a sound, but is effective in blinding the enemy in Ost, have confidence in the smoke and your Inf will prevail(win).

The big guns do lay smoke, but the graphics for these have not been changed so you will not notice any smoke screen appearing although the actual affect is the same.
This is because good smoke screens rely on a good rate of fire or mass stuartion of an area. Thus, it was only thought worthwhile to change the graphics for mortars, lighter guns and howitzers and the German Nebelwerfers.
